APRIL3MedI aNMENTIn the year 1939, a young and vibrant teenager Stan Lee began his career in comics. As one of the most renowned comic book writers of all time, Stan Lee gave life to some of the most cherished Marvel superheroes in history which include the Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, the Avengers, and the X-Men among many other characters. He is celebrated as the creative tour de force behind Marvel's Silver Age. Let's take part in Stan `The Man' Lee's historic legacy!Initially, Stan Lee was hired as an editorial assistant for Timely Comics. And by 1942, he went up the ranks to become an editor. In 1961, Lee, along with artist Jack Kirby, co-created The Fantastic Four where the four astronauts gain superpowers after a cosmic incident. The series made him and Atlas - now known as Marvel - major forces in the world of comics. One year later, Lee, along with the artist Steve Ditko created Spider-Man. These were the cosmic times when the Marvel Universe slowly started its Big Bang! This fantastic-trio - Lee, Kirby, and Ditko - adopted a collaborative workflow which came to be known as "the Marvel method." This robust technique gave these artists the much needed momentum to drive input on story plotting, thereby allowing Marvel to develop new contents at a rapid pace. Furthermore, Lee and Kirby also added another gem in the Marvel Universe with the creation of The X-Men in 1963. Rather than making characters larger than life, Lee's approach combined superhuman powers with human insecurities and emotions; steering Marvel gradually to significant heights. And in the year 1972, Lee became publisher and editorial director of the group. And as the world further traversed to cinematics, the film adaptations based on the series that Lee co-created were highly successful; be it X-Men (2000) and Spider-Man (2002) which were launched as blockbuster franchises earned billions of dollars in box-office revenue, globally. Furthermore, Hollywood treatment was also carried out with Lee's other creations such as Daredevil (2003), Hulk (2003), and Iron Man (2008), wherein, he was often featured in cameo roles in those films. This tradition further continued post Disney's purchase of Marvel in 2009. Adding to this, Lee also wrote books on comics while making a feature of his own life. His published works were Origins of Marvel Comics (1974), Excelsior!: The Amazing Life of Stan Lee (2002), and Stan Lee and the Rise and Fall of the American Comic Book (2003). In the year 2008, he was also awarded a National Medal of Arts. As we bid farewell to Stan Lee's extravaganza in the year 2018, he still remains in each and every character, stories, and the overall universe which he brought to life for the world to savor for ages and ages to come. The Architect Behind the Marvel Universe
